K-9 Unit
The Auburn Police Department’s K-9 Unit is comprised of one handler and one highly trained German Shepherd partner. Officer A. Kalet is assigned to K-9 Pikachu ("Chuey"), a 2 year old sable-colored German Shepherd, donated by the Sean M. Walsh K-9 Memorial Foundation. K-9 Pikachu was welcomed by the Auburn Police Department to replace K-9 Ozzy, who passed away due to sudden illness. In March of 2016, Chuey and Officer Kalet were granted NYS certification in narcotics detection.

At this time, Officer Kalet and K-9 Pikachu are assigned to the 2000 – 0400 (8PM – 4AM) shift. When the K-9 Team is not on a regular patrol duty they are on an on-call status and can respond from their home to scenes, county-wide within minutes. In addition to their regular patrol duties, Officer Kalet and K-9 Pikachu continuously train on a monthly basis in order to maintain their proficiency in their selected areas of work.
