The City Council as defined by the City of Auburn Charter  'The Mayor and the four Councilors shall constitute the Council of the City of Auburn, in which is vested all the legislative power of the City however conferred or possessed. As such Council, they shall possess all the powers and perform all the duties provided in the said Optional City Government Law for the Council under Plan C thereof, in other general statutes of the State, in this Charter, and in any other special or local act relating to the City of Auburn and shall have power by local law, ordinance or resolution to carry into force and effect all the powers belonging to, or conferred upon, the City or the Council, by general or special law or otherwise.

The Auburn City Council meetings are held the first four Thursdays of each month beginning at 6 p.m. at the Council Chambers of Memorial City Hall, 24 South Street in Auburn, New York.  In the summer months Council meeting start times are at 5 p.m.  Visit the meeting calendar to check on a specific meeting date.

City Council meetings may now be viewed through a live-stream on our City web site. The live video will play on any smartphone, tablet, laptop computer, or desktop computer. The video player is now built into the City website on a local government access channel that the City has named Channel-A.

Each week at the City Council meeting, a portion of the agenda is dedicated for individuals to address the Council about city issues. This portion of the meeting is known as "Public Be Heard." For individuals unable to attend the weekly meeting we have created a Public Be Heard web page. Visit the Public Be Heard web page and you may easily communicate with the entire City Council by submitting your comments electronically through one very easy to use form.

Accomodations:  Requests for accommodations for individuals with disabilities may be made with advanced notice of at least three work days in advance of the meeting by calling (315) 255-4100 or e-mailing  As much advance notice as possible is needed to assure that appropriate services can be acquired.

There are several ways to watch City Council meetings:
1.  Meetings are open to the public and can be watched in person at Council Chambers at Memorial City Hall, 24 South Street in Auburn every Thursday night beginning at 6 p.m.
