The Department of Law, headed by the Corporation Counsel, provides a wide range of legal services to the City of Auburn, its legislative body and its various departments, which include:
- Counsel to Mayor and Council, City Manager, all City Departments, and all City Boards and Committees
- Prosecute and defend all actions brought by or against the above
- Prepare and approve as to form Ordinances, Local Laws and Council Resolutions
- Prepare and review all contracts for the City of Auburn
- Process and investigate all claims against the City of Auburn
- Manage all Labor issues
- Review and defend all assessment and tax certiorari claims
- Examine and approve title to all real property acquired by the City of Auburn and prepare documents and proceedings for the sale of City owned property
